For the 2014 Eat Local Challenge, The Nola Locavores is teaming up again with Nola Social Ride and Parkway Partners to stage the 2nd Annual New Orleans Eat Local Challenge Urban Farm Bike Tours!
Registration for these events are free and will include water and some fresh local food snacks. A custom event T-shirt will also be available for a donation of $5 for 2013 Eat Local Challenge Members and $10 for everyone else (see design below). Donations and t-shirt orders can be submitted below. Please pre-order T-shirts so that we will know how many to have printed! A small number of shirts will be available at registration, but we ask that everyone please pre-order so that we can know what our budget is for refreshments!
Regarding refreshments: since this is a free event, it is doubtful that we will be able get enough refreshments donated/purchased for everyone (although we will try!). We will have plenty of water, but please bring a snack for yourself, and something to share! This year we will have a sag truck riding along, which will be available to carry any snacks or supplies that you would like to bring.

Due to the large expected turnout, there will no way for everyone to ride in one large group as we travel from stop to stop. Each rider will receive a printed route, which will be distributed at registration. Folks from the NOLA Social Ride that are familiar with the route will be dispersed throughout the group to ensure that everyone knows how to get from stop to stop. The route has been meticulously planned to pass as many urban gardens as possible, so keep your eyes open as you ride! They will also be listed on the route so that you can check them out as we roll along!
Please note that everyone is individually responsible for safe operation of their bicycles and for following all traffic laws at all times while on public streets. Ample time has been included in the schedule to ensure that everyone can travel at a comfortable pace. Personal safety equipment (helmets and lights) are encouraged.
If you need a bike rental, The American Bicycle Rental Company (http://www.bikerentalneworleans.com/), a sponsor for the 2013 Eat Local Challenge, will be providing on-site bike rentals by reservation, so all you have to do is call, reserve a bike, and show up!
We look forward to exploring many pockets of local edible flora on our most sustainable, efficient method of travel available: Pedal Power! Come discover some of the beautiful community, back yard, and professional edible gardens in the City!
WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE A BIKE?
If you don’t have a bike, or can’t ride for any reason, please feel free to join us at the garden stops. You don’t have to have a bike to participate, but remember: how you get there is half the fun!
T-SHIRTS:
T-shirts will be available for this event and they can be purchased below online ($10 or $5 for Participants in the Eat Local Challenge). The t-shirts can be picked up on the day of the ride (possibly before). Proceeds from our t-shirt sales (along with donations) helps to buy water & local snacks for the tour participants.
If you would just like to make a donation and are not interested in having the t-shirt please indicate in the box below. If you don’t want a T-shirt but would like to RSVP, please do so by sending a quick email to nolasocialride@gmail.com.
