4th Annual Connect the 9 Community Bike Ride
Saturday, April 2 at 10 a.m.

New Orleans, LA – The 4th Annual Connect the 9 Community Bike Ride will take place Saturday, April 2 beginning at the Green Project, 2831 Marais Street. Bike riders of all ages and skill levels are invited to take part in the ride across the St. Claude Avenue Bridge and through the Lower 9th Ward to advocate for safe biking and walking options on the St. Claude Avenue Bridge. The event will begin at 10 a.m. with a bike maintenance and safety workshop from Bike Easy prior to the ride across the bridge at 11:30 a.m. Bikers will also be able to meet up with the ride at 12 p.m. at the Sankofa Market on the corner of St. Claude Avenue and Forstall Street.

During the ride, participants will have the opportunity to:
Buy produce at Sankofa Market
Learn about the Common Ground Relief farm and its work to restore cypress trees
View the historic levee breach marker on Jordan Avenue
Pass through the Make it Right neighborhood to view sustainable homes
Kayak at Bayou Bienvenue, the ending point of the ride (2677 Caffin Avenue)
Where:
Riders meet at The Green Project, 2831 Marais Street
Riders may also meet up with the ride at the Sankofa Market, 3819 St. Claude Avenue

NOLA City Council
The New Orleans City Council is the legislative branch of New Orleans city government. The Council considers and enacts all local laws that govern the City of New Orleans. The Council also approves the operating and capital budgets for the City, as recommended by the mayor, and continually monitors revenues and expenditures for local government operations. The City Council is also the regulatory body for public utilities. It also reviews and has final say on many land use and zoning matters, as well as considers major economic development projects for the City. As a Board of Review for Orleans Parish, the Council examines appeals of property tax assessments for real estate taxes, and certifies tax rolls to the Louisiana Tax Commission. Other responsibilities of the Council include overseeing the operation of the public access television in Orleans Parish. Streaming video and video archives of the City Council’s Regular and Committee meetings can be found on the City Council website.

The City Council is comprised of five districts and two councilmembers-at-large. Council President and Councilmember-at-Large Jason R. Ride to connect the Lower to Upper Ninth Ward for safe transportation options for people biking and walking on the St. Claude Bridge!

Riders meet at The Green Project at 2831 Marais Street
Bike maintenance and safety workshop from Bike Easy from 10:00-11:30 AM
Bike ride begins at 11:30 AM
Or meet us at Sankofa Market at the corner of St. Claude Ave. and Forstall St. at 12:00 PM

Riders will have the opportunity to:
• Buy produce at Sankofa Market – remember to bring a bag if you plan to make a purchase!
• Learn about the Common Ground Relief farm and its work to restore Cyprus trees
• View the historic levee breach marker on Jordan Avenue
• Pass through the Make it Right neighborhood to view the sustainable homes
• Kayak afterwards at Bayou Bienvenue, the ending point of the ride
A vehicle will be available for those who need transportation back to the Green Project.
